"The public at the Saint-Etienne Opera house enjoys a great privilege: discovering Andromaque, an opera never staged again since its premiere in 1780. This work by André-Ernest-Modeste Grétry, a figure of French classicism, was composed on a libretto by Louis-Guillaume Pitra, at the request of the Royal Academy of Music. Very faithful to Racine's play, it recounts in three acts the torments of Hector's widow, yielding to the advances of Pyrrhus before dying."
