New production
After the immensely famous Pelléas et Mélisande set to music by Claude Debussy, Paul Dukas decided to take on a play by Maeterlinck. With Ariane et Barbe-Bleue, the composer plays with symbolism to weave this strange story where the desire for freedom confronts easy submission. Can we claim freedom for someone who doesn't want it? What we want for ourselves is not necessarily what others aspire to. Ariane will learn, at a cost, that it is not always good to raise the veil over the obscure side of the psyche of those around her.
