Description
Co-production with the Opéra National du Capitole from where we reported on the creation in our French columns in 2023.
"'I want the sound to express the idea, I want the truth' wrote Mussorgsky. His dark tale of Boris's greatness and decadence is a fascinating and disturbing theatrical experience as much as a musical one. Historical drama and political fable, Boris is indeed a lyrical titan within the corpus of Russian opera. But above all, it is a reflection on the solitude of power and its excesses. Another titan was needed to carry this colossus role, and who else than Matthias Goerne to embody it with the strength but also the interiority that it requires. At his side, a team of singers experienced in this demanding repertoire, the Orchester National de France and the seasoned baton of Andris Poga."
