Description

New production.

"To care for their sick mother, two orphans decide to sing in the market square in order to earn money to buy milk. But the cruel Brundibár pursues them to stop them. It will take the help of street children, a bird, a cat and a learned dog to overcome the tyrant.

Under the name Brundibár lies one of the tragic pages of 20th-century opera. Created clandestinely in an orphanage in Prague in 1942, Hans Krása's opera was performed several times in the Terezín camp, giving rise to a documentary. Unfortunately, this film was used for propaganda purposes by the Nazis who used it to deceive the International Committee of the Red Cross on a delegated visit.

The directors Suzie Baret-Fabry and Pénélope Driant revisit the tale in the harsh light of History. With a group of children and adolescents aged six to sixteen, they make this work a song of resistance against oppression."
