Description

After its world premiere at the Opéra national de Bordeaux in November 2024, Clara Olivares' contemporary opera Les Sentinelles will be revived in its original production at the Opéra de Limoges in January 2025, with the performers from the premiere.

"How can you love for a long time what only lasts a moment?
Clara Olivares' opera, based on a libretto by and directed by Chloé Lechat, traces four moments in the lives of four characters: A, B, C and E, who struggle to find their place in the face of social diktats and the sacrifices imposed on them.
The Sentinels tells the story of how the relationship between a mother and her gifted daughter deteriorates when they come into contact with B and C, a lovesick duo who suddenly burst into their lives.
As the story progresses, official and unofficial couples are formed, only to be torn apart in an inextricable spiral before the eyes of the enigmatic child.

Beyond the failures of love, each figure in the work asks questions about the consequences of poor communication, the social impossibility of building new models for life together, the reconciliation of desire and responsibility, and the quest for meaning and stability.

In coproduction with the Opéra national de Bordeaux and the Opéra-Comique de Paris.
