Description
New production.
Baroque pasticcio in two acts inspired by the libretto L'Olimpiade by Pietro Metastasio and Antonio Vivaldi. Music by Antonio Vivaldi, Giuseppe Sarti, Giavanni Battista Pergolesi, Johan Adolf Hasse...
From Caldara (for whom it was written) to Vivaldi (certainly the best known today), Metastasio's libretto L'Olimpiade has inspired a good fifty composers throughout the centuries! Reinterpreting this original libretto in their own way, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Nathalie Spinosi and Eric Oberdorff offer us a new opera of remarkable relevance.
The Olimpiade is a libretto carrying infinite humanity: Metastasio presented values such as loyalty, sacrifice, love, surpassing oneself, but also their inevitable reverse: fraud, forced marriages, patriarchy and the commodification of women…
Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Nathalie Spinosi and Eric Oberdorff had the brilliant idea of creating a new opera by readapting this libretto to better resonate with our world today. Removing recitatives in favor of a narrator, mixing pages from different operas composed on Metastasio's original libretto, they created a work of incredible modernity. Sport and opera finally united!
