Work description

Description

The musical Sister Act is based on the 1992 film of the same name, which served as the basis for the libretto by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner, with spoken dialogue by Douglas Carter Beane. The musical is based on an original score composed by Alan Menken (separate from that of the film) and lyrics by Glenn Slater.

Sister Act had its world premiere on 24 October 2006 at the Pasadena Playhouse in California, produced by Peter Schneider and choreographed by Marguerite Derricks. The show was a huge success there before being revived in Atlanta in 2007, London in 2009 and New York in 2011.

The musical was then adapted into French and performed at the Théâtre Mogador in 2012. It ran for several months, with over 200 performances and 300,000 spectators.
