Description
The Künstlerhaus is a cultural landmark in Vienna, Austria - the building is not only the headquarters of the Künstlerhaus Association, dedicated to artists, but also, since 2013, a cinema (the Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus), a performance hall in the right wing of the building, and a museum, the Albertina modern, dedicated to modern and contemporary art, which opened in 2020 after four years of work and general renovation of the building.
In 2024, the Vienna State Opera and its then director, Bogdan Roščić, announced the opening of an additional hall within the Vienna Künstlerhaus (on Karlsplatz, directly by the Musikverein, Albertina Modern and Wien Museum) to host opera and dance programmes specifically designed for young audiences - for "children, teenagers and young adults". This hall within the Künstlerhaus is inaugurated on 7 December 2024, the date of the opening of the institution's first season. Bogdan Roščić promised "180 performances in its first (shortened) season, as colourful and diverse as its audiences – opera and dance, participatory, cross-generation and comical, discursive, and curious".
The Künstlerhaus in Vienna is a "fully equipped 250-seat theatre with modern stage machinery, an orchestra pit and further rooms for smaller events".
