Musical-theatrical fresco with music and text by Frank Zappa. Based on the British-American film directed by Tony Palmer and Frank Zappa released in theaters in 1971. Created on September 21, 2018 as part of the Strasbourg Musica Festival and September 30, 2018 at the Salle Pierre Boulez of the Philharmonie de Paris.
A resolutely protean artist, Frank Zappa made an unclassifiable film in 1971, 200 Motels, a sort of slightly crazy documentary fiction on the life of a rock group: The Mothers of Invention. At the end of a long tour in the United States, the group is invited to participate in a television show... which will soon go awry!
A stage transposition of this now cult film, 200 Motels – The Suites is a decidedly extraordinary show, where rock concert, symphony concert, television show, opera, musical comedy and documentary combine in a clever and joyful mix of genres.
Léo Warynski (conductor) and Antoine Gindt (director) bring together the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, a rock group (The Headshakers) and the instrumental ensemble of the Percussions de Strasbourg for a production that promises to be high in colour !
