Description

The argument is as follows: Atalia, a usurping and paranoid queen who has abandoned religion, fears an uprising of her people. Her fear of seeing the throne slip away from her drives her into a murderous madness: she demands that her faithful Ormonte executes his most hostile detractor, the Sacerdote, the high priest. But the latter, with the complicity of the Nutrice, secretly prepares the inevitable fall of the tyrant.
