New production.

After ten years, Teatro alla Scala is presenting a new production of Wagner's Ring des Nibelungen, designed by David McVicar, an internationally renowned director who has already staged a wide repertoire of operas at La Scala, ranging from Cavalli and Berlioz to Cilea and Verdi.

La Scala had initially announced that Christian Thielemann, a great specialist in the Wagnerian repertoire, would conduct the orchestra, adding his name to a list of giants such as Toscanini, De Sabata, Krauss, Furtwängler, Cluytens, Muti and Barenboim. However, the conductor had to withdraw for health reasons. He was replaced by Simone Young on 28 and 31 October, then on 3 November, and Alexander Soddy on 5, 7 and 10 November.

The Tetralogy will be completed in the coming seasons with Die Walküre and Siegfried in 2025, and Götterdämmerung and two complete cycles in 2026.
