Description
"A return to the origins of the most English of composers of German origin with these intimate arias composed between 1724 and 1726. A moment of grace concentrated in Les Arts Florissants, reduced to the essence of their ensemble and soloists Rowan Pierce and James Way.
The Nine German Airs are among those rare pieces composed by Handel in his mother tongue. The texts by Brockes, a poet who had already inspired him for a Passion in 1716, gain a melodic charm and a contemplative intensity far removed from the spectacularity of the great secular or biblical oratorios that are more popular today. Les Arts Florissants, led from the harpsichord by William Christie and always in dialogue with the younger generations, perform these little gems of Baroque vocal chamber music with violin, flute, or obbligato oboe for soprano Rowan Pierce and tenor James Way. An opportunity to discover two voices full of nuance and subtlety in a more intimate repertoire than that of the opera they frequent assiduously."
