"What better than a stellar myth to shine in the Provençal night? The story of the beautiful and unfortunate Calisto is one of the countless conquests made by Jupiter under borrowed guises: that of a nymph whom he seduces by taking the appearance of Diana, who is changed into a bear by the jealous wife and then metamorphosed into a glorious constellation. La Calisto is the most fascinating representative of Venetian Baroque in its golden age, a subtle blend of comedy and tragedy served by an extraordinarily rich and varied musical language. But behind the entertaining farce freely evoking the fluidity of desire and the confusion in the genre, the work offers a bitter portrayal of romantic relationships: through the escapades of Jupiter and his family, Jetske Mijnssen shows the turpitudes of a selfish and cruel society caught in the knot of dangerous liaisons; Sébastien Daucé reveals all the treasures of this music at the head of his Ensemble Correspondances and a host of singers among the most talented of the new generation."
