Revival of the production of Nicolas Joël, which we reported in French in 2017 in Toulouse.

 

Puccini's bittersweet love affair makes a rare Met appearance, with soprano Angel Blue as French courtesan Magda, opposite tenor Jonathan Tetelman in his highly anticipated Met debut as Ruggero, an idealistic young man who offers him an alternative to his life of excess. Speranza Scappucci directs this Art Deco-inspired staging, which transports audiences from the heart of Parisian nightlife to a dreamlike vision of the Côte d'Azur. In their Met debut, soprano Emily Pogorelc and tenor Bekhzod Davronov round out the cast as Lisette and Prunier.
