Taking as their basis the legend of the love potion of Tristan et Yseult, Donizetti and Romani dreamed up a well-rounded comedy that granted the composer one of his most greatest triumphs in this vein and one of his most durable successes, punctuated with superb arias, among the best of them being Una furtiva lagrima.
