General Information

Description

New production.

"Hébé, goddess of youth, can no longer stand Olympus and decides to taste the pleasures of humans on the banks of the Seine.
In his honor, Love is organizing three shows, each illustrating the power of youth over hearts when supported by “lyrical talent” – poetry, music or dance. Sapho, Iphise and Eglé are the heroines of these sung and danced episodes.
The opera-ballet of the 18th century was intended to be a total spectacle. With its transformative sets and its intrigues more gallant than mythological, this 1739 creation celebrated the virtuosity of singing and ballet, harmony and orchestra. Rameau displayed his genius there and achieved an undisputed triumph.
An emblematic figure of the Opéra-Comique since the revelation of Atys in 1987 in the production of Jean-Marie Villégier, William Christie is back with Les Arts Florissants to mark his 80th birthday. Robert Carsen celebrates with him the eternal capacity of the arts to regenerate love and stimulate youth."
