Description
A new and rare production,
co-produced with: Lyon Opera, Palazzetto Bru Zane - Center for French Romantic Music, and Théâtre national de l'Opéra-Comique. "Since the day I gave myself away...
" Few operas express the joy of love and its emancipatory potential for a young woman as evocatively as Louise in her most famous aria. Coming from a working-class background with strict morals, the heroine ultimately chooses to face alone an uncertain future personified by Paris, a city of freedom and perdition. With his musical novel combining social concerns and idealistic aspirations, sublime lyrical flights and grand picturesque scenes, Gustave Charpentier offers the 20th century its first opera. A great connoisseur of the work, Christof Loy reveals the dark corners of a society that, far from liberating its girls, offers them only cheap romances to sublimate a limited horizon of frustrations. Elsa Dreisig continues her exploration of the roles of wholesome and combative young women; she is surrounded by the most brilliant defenders of the French repertoire under the direction of Giacomo Sagripanti at the head of the Choir and Orchestra of the Lyon Opera."
