"The greatest tenor of his generation makes his debut at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence in one of the most complete and demanding roles in the entire repertoire. It is that the penultimate masterpiece of Verdi, after Shakespeare, rushes from the crash of the initial storm to the whispered kiss of the final agony, letting the poison of jealousy do its work quickly in the soul of the Moor Otello, manipulated by Iago in the detriment of the beautiful Desdemona. Jonas Kaufmann and Ludovic Tézier – unquestionably the best Verdian baritone today – are brought together in this work and embody these roles for the first time in France. They are joined by Maria Agresta, one of the most beautiful voices and stylists from Italy. Returning after the personal success he achieved in Moses and Pharaoh last summer, Michele Mariotti leads the forces of the Opera of Naples in full.
