Sometimes, an innovative reading of the director succeeds in projecting an entire repertoire in a new light: this is the case with Mario Martone's interpretation of verismo works such as La cena delle beffe, Andrea Chénier or Fedora. His first step in this adventure is a diptych mixing Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo and Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni in 2011, characterized by a refined realism.
