Description
Ballet.
Played with Don Juan.
"Don Juan defies social norms as he flouts divine laws. Semiramis, queen of Babylon, chooses a husband, unaware that it is her son. To each, a specter appears to announce the supreme punishment.
Before putting drama back at the heart of opera, Gluck contributed to the transformation of the choreographic art of his time. Associated with the ballet master Angiolini, he espoused the audacious project of Calzabigi who aimed, in Vienna, to make dance a complete narrative language.
These two pantomime ballets, which owe a lot to French literary sources, imposed Gluck's evocative art in Europe.
This co-production of the Capitole de Toulouse, the Liceu de Barcelona and the Opéra-Comique brings to life, under the baton of Jordi Savall and in choreographies by Edward Clug and Ángel Rodríguez, the advent of a revolution in the arts: the primacy finally granted to the expressive gesture over all conventions."
