Description
““Tell me Venus…”: Love under Louis XV!
This recital invokes the goddess and the heroines of French opera from the century of Louis XV. Marie Perbost embodies all the figures who are victims of the passions unleashed by Aphrodite.
“Dis-moi, Vénus…” reveals the figure of the goddess of Love in the opening chorus of Castor and Pollux by Rameau, to the parodic mockery of La Folie de Platée. The program covers nearly three decades of French opera with excerpts from lyrical tragedies and comic operas.
Mainly concentrated around musicians of the generation of Jean-Philippe Rameau, this Venusian anthology also invites you to rediscover the virtuoso pages of Mondonville in Les Fêtes de Paphos (1758). Among the world premiere recreations, we can hear an aria from the Ismene pastoral by Rebel and Francoeur. This opera-ballet was conceived for the Théâtre des Petits Appartements in Versailles in 1747, with Madame de Pompadour in the title role. We will also discover the sleep of Love extracted from Romans (1746) by Jean-Baptiste Niel and the invitation to the sensuality of the piquant Iphis in Les Fêtes de Thalie (1714) by Mouret, the most revived in the 18th century. The extract from The Reapers (1768) by Egidio Romualdo Duni, recalls the nuances of Mozart. The libretto by Charles-Simon Favart, full of tenderness, has a lot to do with it."
On the occasion of the release of the CD in the Château de Versailles Spectacles collection, Gaétan Jarry brings together the musicians of the Royal Opera Orchestra for this sparkling tribute to the music of love – and madness! The participation of Nicolò Balducci, a young countertenor already celebrated at Versailles, will make this concert even more astonishing, a veritable assault on Baroque virtuosity!"
