While antiquity formed the backdrop to Orphée aux Enfers and La Belle Hélène to mock society, with La Vie parisienne Offenbach decided to shed this time filter. The failings of his contemporaries are laid out in a feast of gossip in a society drunk on pleasures and parties, even though the sound of marching boots and canons is approaching fast on the other bank of the Rhine. Hit after hit weave through this vaudeville operetta immortalised by Offenbach's art.
