"On the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Maria Callas, on December 2, 1923, the Paris National Opera is offering an exceptional gala to benefit the institution's activities, on the very day of this anniversary.

 

Magnetic singer and moving tragedian, Maria Callas transformed the art of acting and singing in opera. She performed three times on the stage of the Palais Garnier: during a Legion of Honor gala in 1958, in Norma in 1964 under the baton of Georges Prêtre and in the famous production of Tosca by Franco Zeffirelli. She also had a special link with Paris where she made her home, and where she died on September 16, 1977.

 

Under the direction of Eun Sun Kim, the soprano Sondra Radvanovsky will pay homage to Callas in a production by Robert Carsen."
